The Cotswold Collection
This late summer ramble starts at the Painswick Rococo Garden. What is a ‘rococo’ garden? According to Michael Symes ‘delightful, eccentric, capricious, bizarre – these are some of the adjectives that describe an intriguing branch of the 18th century English garden’. We have an introductory talk and can then explore the follies
Then onto Woodchester Mansion. FGGB says ‘if ever house deserved to be called a folly, this one does’. In the style of Violett-le-Duc building started in 1846, but stopped 15 years later with the house unfinished. We will have a guided tour of the house and the current restoration work.
Finally we will retire for a cream tea!
