Hadley Castle, Telford. This old mill buidling has recently been restored into a handsome house called Mill House. It was once a windmill, then a water mill, then it had battlements added and stood at the entrance to GKN Sankeys works for a long time. The works walls were also battlemented and the whole factory was known as Hadley Castle. Some local folk think it has always been just a folly.
Another battlemented windmill at Much Wenlock, Shopshire is currently being restored. This one had battlements added in 1859 when a viewing platform was added for the Olympian games in the adjoing field. |
